In the international sniper arena, a crafty Cajun named Jacques Boudreaux is the master. When a crime organization wants to silence a lady friend of Boudreaux's past, she summons him for help. He holds true to the friendship code of the Louisiana Bayou. Using his deadly art, he becomes a predator and enacts the swamp's brutal justice system. Boudreaux completes his mission, but the fight of his life still awaits him. Unknowingly, his escapade also kills the lucrative revenue source of a powerful and corrupt New Orleans individual. A well-financed and highly trained unit of shooters is dispatched to eliminate Boudreaux. The overconfident rouge unit quickly learns that this simple Cajun is a worthy adversary.

Advance sniper techniques are woven into the story. The technical information on techniques used in long-range marksmanship is condensed into a short supplement that is located in the rear of the book.

This one starts with Scott Mayeaux. A Mayeaux everyone thinks is a salesman. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Scott is a killer who works for a drug mob.

Mayeaux has killed people for them and right now he's having thoughts of leaving. He knows this will be dangerous but his boss has brought in a couple of new guys. These guys are careless, cruel and one of them is bats*** crazy to boot.

Scott can see one of these guys as lining up to take his job as second to his boss. Right then Scott decides he needs out. To do that he will need some insurance.

Scott and his wife Malynda are caught at home. Daughter Celeste is put in a closet and Malynda is raped and beaten to death in front of Scott. Scott is then shot in the head.

At the morgue its found Malynda isn't dead. Once she's able she calls a guy she knew in high school Jacques Beaudreaux is his name.

Jacques Beaudreax is a man who competes in sniper contests. Jacques is forty years old and stands at 5'10". Not a big guy but he's one helluva sniper and a man with one serious special forces background. Beaudreaux is the best of the best as far a snipers go and a cajun from Louisiana. A cajun who would do anything for family or a friend.

So begins one damned fine read.

The Cajun Sniper edition by Wayne Talley Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This is a well written adventure novel. Wish there was more background on the main character, however that doesn't take away from a very good book. The main character is plauseable, which helps. The south has a different view of justice than the rest of the world. He dishes out Cajun justice by the pot full. The book moves at a good clip keeping the reader interested enough to turn the next page well into the night. There are enough facts to keep it real without sounding like a Hollywood fantasy. Highly recommend.
To the One Star Whiners. I don't care about the spelling. I'm not too much concerned with the grammar as long as the story is readable. I rather liked the "accent" spoken by many of the characters.

This one of the most technically correct firearms story I've read and I'm very pleased with that. Several other of the 'big name" authors who know firearms still have slips in such detail. (in Clancy's most recent, IIRC, he has the character turn the safety off on his glock or maybe that was Evanovich (G)).

The story was good, enough action to keep it interesting, REAL bad guys and REAL good guys (even a Good Girl). I enjoyed it.

HOWEVER, I do have one point that pushed me over the edge.

In several articles I've edited for my FIL, he's had infatuations with certain phrases. In one article, he used "In the great out of doors" 27 times in ten pages. In another it was "rustic cabins" that was used 12 times in five pages. I will be reading more of Wayne's work, but he seemed to be having an affair with the phrase "The rifle rocketed back into his shoulder", "rocketed perfectly back into his shoulder pocket" etc, save to his credit, only seven uses, but it felt like much more.

The key here is what I would consider the single error in Gun Tech, or simply a semantic failure in trying to convey the idea.

I've been shooting High Power competition since I was 11 years old, a span of 50 years. I have NEVER, in any of my competitive shooting hear the term "rocket back" used in relationship to recoil either in the US (the origin of HP) or in shooting competitively in Europe (6 years)

Further, the phrase "back into his shoulder" and "back into his shoulder pocket" are semantically confusing even for an experienced shooter. The rifle's butt should be solidly seated against the shoulder, "in the pocket" when the shot is taken, the rifle "rockets" nowhere, it's already on the shoulder. The wording as Wayne uses it is very misleading and implies that the rifle is held away from the shoulder.

I know that's a very techno/semantic nit I'm picking, but thatdetail kept dragging me back.

Beyond that, I'll be reading more of Mr. Talley's work in the very near future.

Keep up the (save my tiny nit) the GREAT tech detail on the shooting!
This man knows shooting and sniper techniques inside and out! I was skeptical because of some of the past reviews. While I agree that grammar and chapter structure could have been better the story coupled with the detailed shooting and sniper methodology was what made the story believable. Also I have known several Cajuns and Wayne did an excellent job of detailing the bond in most Cajun communities. While the plot is fictional and at times a stretch, the author kept me captivated with factual information so that my mind did not go to "it is just a movie or book" syndrome. I immediately went and bough his other book! Look forward to reading more from him and would love to see a non-fictional book on long range shooting techniques from him. The only suggestion I can even think of is better chapter separation to make it easier on the reader to follow complex time-lines.
